Home Blog Be My Eyes Reaches 1 Million Blind and Low-Vision Users and 10 Million Volunteers, Launches Foundation to Expand Global Access to Accessibility Technology
March 12, 2026
San Francisco, March 12, 2026— Be My Eyes, the company behind the world’s largest support platform for blind and low-vision people, today announced at the 41st CSUN Assistive Technology Conference that a major milestone of more than 1 million blind or low-vision users are now connected with a global network of over 10 million volunteers through the Be My Eyes app.
Since its launch, Be My Eyes has been instrumental in how blind and low-vision people receive descriptions and assistance in everyday life. With just the tap of a button, users can instantly connect with a sighted volunteer or a specialized customer service agent through live video to get help with tasks such as reading labels, navigating unfamiliar environments, troubleshooting devices, and more.
The milestone reflects the extraordinary growth of a community built on a simple but powerful idea: making visual assistance accessible anytime, anywhere.
“Reaching one million blind and low-vision users and ten million volunteers is far beyond what I imagined when I first had the idea for Be My Eyes,” said Hans Jørgen Wiberg, Founder of Be My Eyes. “This community shows the incredible willingness of people around the world to help one another. Every day, millions of small acts of kindness happen through the app, and together they make the world more accessible.”
What began as a simple volunteer-powered video call service has evolved into a broader accessibility platform. Today, Be My Eyes also connects users with companies through its Service Directory, enabling direct access to trained customer support teams at major global brands. In addition, the company has introduced AI-powered tools designed to provide faster, more scalable assistance while maintaining the human connection at the heart of the platform.
“Crossing this milestone is a powerful reminder that accessibility is not a niche issue—it’s a global movement,” said Mike Buckley, CEO of Be My Eyes. “Our community proves that when technology is built with inclusion in mind, it unlocks independence, opportunity, and connection for millions of people. We are incredibly grateful to every volunteer and every user who has helped build this community.”
Today, Be My Eyes users and volunteers span over 150 countries and speak more than 180 languages, making it one of the most globally connected accessibility communities in the world.
Yet even with this extraordinary growth, the opportunity—and the need—remains vast. An estimated 340 million people worldwide live with blindness or low vision, and the majority still lack access to the tools, services, and support that could help them live more independently. Bridging that gap will require not only innovation in technology, but also global collaboration, education, and investment in accessible solutions.
To help meet that challenge, Be My Eyes is announcing the creation of the Be My Eyes Foundation, a new initiative dedicated to accelerating the global development and distribution of free technologies that will transform how blind people live, study, work or play.
“Reaching this milestone is a moment to celebrate—but it’s also a reminder of how much work remains,” added Buckley. “Through the Be My Eyes Foundation, we want to ensure that the next generation of accessibility technology reaches not just millions, but hundreds of millions of blind and low-vision people around the world.”
