Today Be My Eyes is announcing the integration of a brand new feature in the Be My Eyes app, called Be My Eyes Groups. With Be My Eyes Groups, individuals who are blind or have low vision can build their own custom network of people to help with everyday tasks, like reviewing a paper mail or reading personal documents such as financial statements, bank communications or medical prescriptions.

The deployment of this new feature comes directly from the amazing feedback of the Be My Eyes community. For years we’ve heard from Be My Eyes users that not every person is comfortable asking for help from an unknown volunteer, no matter how kind.  This is why, in addition to our  existing 7 million volunteers, now blind people worldwide can also build their own custom network of people to help with more personal and sensitive tasks people might not wish to share with an unknown volunteer.

“Our Be My Eyes Groups for Friends and Family is a whole new way to use Be My Eyes that gives the possibility to our users to create a personal circle of volunteers, be it a group of friends, family members or colleagues.” Said Be My Eyes Vice Chair Bryan Bashin “This new feature is based on the valuable feedback of our community and we are so excited to finally be able to release it! This new feature joins an extensive bundle of services already available on the be my eyes app and takes us a step closer to our goal of creating an environment where everyone can get visual assistance based on their personal needs.”

How It Works

To Create a Be My Eyes Group for Friends and Family, click on “My Groups” in the Be My Eyes App homepage and follow the instructions on the screen. After you have created and named your first Group, you will be able to send an invite link to your friends and family members. You will find the link at the end of the group creation process.

Once you’ve assembled your trusted circle, just press the Be My Eyes Groups button to connect with the first available person who is known to you. You can  enter up to 20 people in your circle and have up to 5 different groups on Be My Eyes.

Just like the other Be My Eyes features  such as standard volunteers,  Specialized Help and now Be My AI, our new Groups for Friends and Family feature is free of charge. We’ll roll out Be My Eyes Groups worldwide beginning December 20 as an open beta test to ensure it’s working well for our worldwide user group.

Finally, we’d like to remind you that our new feature Be My AI™ is now officially available for all Android smartphone users worldwide. Update your app to the most recent version if you want to start experimenting with the power of AI and receive personalized assistance with dozens of everyday activities!
