Be My Eyes Launches on Huawei HarmonyOS, Significantly Expanding Access for Blind and Low Vision Users in China

San Francisco, CA – 15 June 2026 – Be My Eyes today announced the availability of its award-winning app on Huawei’s HarmonyOS operating system, bringing its volunteer-powered visual assistance service to people living in China who are blind or have low vision.

The initial release of the app brings the call-a-volunteer functionality to HarmonyOS, enabling blind and low vision users to connect with sighted volunteers through live video calls. The volunteers then provide real-time assistance with everyday tasks such as identifying products, reading labels, sorting items, and more.

The launch marks another important step in Be My Eyes’ underlying mission which is to make the world more accessible for people who are blind or have low vision , wherever they are, and whatever device or operating system they happen to use. With an estimated 17 million or more blind and low vision consumers living in China, this partnership brings Be My Eyes to a huge population of people who would otherwise have no access to it.

“Accessibility should not depend on which phone someone owns,” said Mike Buckley, CEO of Be My Eyes. “Our mission has always been to connect people who are blind or have low vision with assistance whenever and wherever they need it. By bringing Be My Eyes to HarmonyOS, we’re extending that mission to a new community of users and helping ensure that more people can access support on their terms.”

Since its founding, Be My Eyes has grown into one of the world’s largest communities focused on accessibility, connecting millions of volunteers with blind and low vision users across more than 200 countries and territories and in hundreds of languages. In China alone, Be My Eyes has 1.6 million sighted volunteers.

With a longer-term plan of bringing full app functionality, including AI assistance, to HarmonyOS, this first launch focuses initially with volunteer calling functionality – including private groups – allowing users to receive assistance from the community that has been at the heart of the service since its inception. Additional features and enhancements will be evaluated for future releases.

The launch reflects Be My Eyes’ long-standing commitment to platform accessibility and user choice. The organization has worked to make its services available across major mobile ecosystems so that blind and low vision users can access assistance on the devices that best meet their needs.

“Huawei users who are blind or have low vision deserve access to the same support and independence as anyone else,” Buckley added. “This launch is about reaching more people, removing barriers, and ensuring accessibility is available wherever it is needed.”

The Be My Eyes app for HarmonyOS is available beginning today through Huawei’s AppGallery and can be downloaded from Download Be My Eyes for HarmonyOS
