From Help the Blind Foundation to college stages: Vignesh’s mission to make inclusion the norm in his home country
Meet Vignesh, an accessibility professional and motivational speaker based in India. Possessing a degree in Tamil and a post-graduation in international relations, Vignesh is passionate about building an inclusive world with the help of digital tools like Be My Eyes.
For Vignesh, independence lies in the details, whether it’s double-checking a prescription, filling out non-accessible online captchas, or reviewing slide layouts before presenting a PowerPoint. Paired with his Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, Be My Eyes offers him hands-free assistance that makes navigating complex environments smooth and intuitive.
One of his favorite moments happened while shopping at a local D-Mart supermarket. Guided by a Be My Eyes volunteer who could see through his smart glasses, Vignesh explored the aisles freely. Together, they checked options and selected personal care products, including the perfect perfume, all without needing to ask supermarket staff for assistance. On another occasion while traveling in Hyderabad, he combined Be My AI’s photo descriptions with live volunteer assistance to select a complete birthday outfit.
Vignesh brings that same dedication to independence to his career as a Placement and Accessibility Audit Executive at Help the Blind Foundation, where he has worked for over two years.
The foundation supports college students who are blind or have low vision through university scholarships, assistive technology provision (such as laptops), and comprehensive training in computer literacy, mobility, and communication. As a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), Vignesh conducts accessibility audits and works directly with companies to help place candidates in meaningful careers.
Even experienced app users run into technical questions occasionally. When Vignesh recently noticed an issue connecting his Meta glasses, he decided to reach out to support.
To his complete surprise, the person who answered his call was none other than Hans Jørgen Wiberg, the founder of Be My Eyes. They had an engaging conversation about the glitch, with Hans promising to look directly into the issue. For Vignesh, speaking directly with the founder demonstrated the genuine, community-driven spirit behind the platform.
As a motivational speaker, Vignesh travels to colleges and public events across India to raise awareness about accessibility and inclusion. In almost every presentation he includes a dedicated slide encouraging sighted audience members to download Be My Eyes.
His advocacy is helping build a stronger volunteer network in India, where connection times for native language speakers have dropped from several minutes to just seconds. Vignesh is excited to see public and digital spaces in India becoming increasingly accessible, empowering more people who are blind or have low vision to live confidently and independently.
