Live visual support aims to transform the rail experience at major U.S. train stations
August 7, 2025
We’ve got exciting news to share, especially if you’re a traveler who’s ever faced the stress of navigating a busy train station while blind or low vision.
Be My Eyes is partnering with Amtrak to launch a brand-new pilot program bringing on-demand visual support to passengers at major U.S. train stations. That means you’ll now be able to get live visual assistance, right from your device, while navigating places like New York Penn Station, Philly’s 30th Street Station, Boston South Station, and more.
If you’ve traveled by train, you know that stations can be a maze: signs everywhere, last-minute gate changes, packed crowds. This new pilot brings the power of Be My Eyes to 16 of the busiest stations in Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor.
Through the Be My Eyes app, blind and low vision passengers can connect directly with trained agents to get help with things like:
All you need is your smartphone and the Be My Eyes app (iOS or Android), where you’ll find Amtrak listed under the “Travel & Transportation” section in our Service Directory menu.
Dr. David Handera, Vice President of Accessibility and Customer Service at Amtrak, put it best:
“This pilot is a major step forward in breaking down barriers to travel for blind and low vision passengers and demonstrates our commitment to equity, accessibility, and innovation.”
We couldn’t agree more.
“For blind and low vision passengers, a seamless station experience can be the difference between frustration and freedom,” says Be My Eyes CEO Mike Buckley. “We’re thrilled to be working with Amtrak to bring this to life.”
This pilot is more than just a tech solution, it’s a step toward building a more independent, accessible future for public transportation in the U.S.
Stay tuned for more updates as the pilot rolls out. If you’re traveling in the Northeast Corridor and give it a try, let us know what you think!
