Lend your eyes. Make someone's day! As a Be My Eyes volunteer, you are able to help out blind and low-vision individuals with their daily tasks through your smartphone. Blind and low-vision users can ask for help with tasks ranging from explaining the color of a shirt, to navigating unfamiliar surroundings, but no matter the case, your assistance allows them to lead more independent lives. Download Be My Eyes Picture of Be My Eyes Volunteer Young woman outdoors, side profile. She has long brown hair and is smiling while looking down at a smartphone she is holding in both hands. The background is blurred with circular light spots, giving a soft, warm, and dreamy atmosphere. The light highlights her hair and the mood seems relaxed and content. How It Works It’s simple. It’s powerful. A request comes in. A blind or low-vision person needs visual support. You get a notification. If you’re available, you can answer. The notification is sent to multiple volunteers at once, to make sure someone is always available to answer. Calls are connected based on daytime timezone and language. You’ll only receive calls in your daytime hours (8am to 9pm), and the blind user will speak the same language as you. When a call is answered, a live one-way video (two-way audio) is initiated, allowing you as a volunteer to see what’s in front of the user’s camera and provide verbal support. Calls are short, casual, and you only pick up when you can. A few minutes of your time can make a huge difference. Watch a Quick Video Tutorial In Call Features for Volunteers Every Be My Eyes call is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference, and our in-call tools are designed to help volunteers provide support with confidence, clarity, and ease. These features enhance the way you guide, assist, and connect, turning each interaction into a seamless and effective experience. Taking a Snapshot For moments when you need to stabilize an image, zoom in, or just take a few extra moments to analyze the task at hand, the in-app Snapshot tool is for you. Turning On Flashlight If it’s too dark to see, tap the flashlight icon at the bottom right of your screen to turn on the blind or low-vision user’s torch. Rating Your Call After every call, you’ll be asked to review your call experience. We appreciate all the feedback that you give us, as it helps us improve the app for everyone. Frequently Asked Questions Why am I not receiving any calls? + Because there are so many volunteers in the Be My Eyes Community compared to blind users, it is quite normal for some time to pass before you receive a call or between calls. Additionally, the app may sometimes be automatically offloaded if not used for a while, in which case you’ll need to reinstall it to continue using it. Do I have to answer every call? + No. You’ll only be connected when you’re available – no pressure. What if I don’t speak the same language? + Calls are routed based on language and time zone, so you’ll connect with someone you can help. What if I can’t solve the problem? + That’s okay! Sometimes even a little help goes a long way. Can I change my availability hours? + At this point, it's not possible to customize your availability hours. Get Inspired View More
