Home Community Story Building Connections and Showcasing Innovation at Sight Village Birmingham
The Be My Eyes team was proud to take part in Sight Village Birmingham this year, attending both Monday and Tuesday as exhibitors.
July 9, 2025
This event, one of the UK’s leading exhibitions for blind and low-vision communities, offered an incredible opportunity to connect with our users, share updates, and gather valuable feedback to help shape the future of our platform.
Over the course of two days, we had the pleasure of speaking directly with hundreds of volunteers and app users. Their experiences and insights continue to be our most powerful guideposts as we evolve our services. From interface suggestions to firsthand stories of how Be My Eyes is used day-to-day, these conversations are vital to how we design accessible tech that truly works.
A major highlight of the event was the daily seminar hosted by our Chief Revenue Officer, Jesper Knutell. His 30-minute talk introduced attendees to the story behind Be My Eyes – from our early days as a volunteer-powered app to our recent innovations in accessible customer service and AI.
Tuesday’s seminar was so well-attended we had to bring in extra chairs to accommodate the crowd. Jesper covered the capabilities of our app, including the use of Be My AI, our AI-powered virtual volunteer, and our groundbreaking partnership with Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses. Attendees had the chance to test these tools in real-time, and the reactions, ranging from delight to disbelief, reminded us why we do what we do.
One insight we left with was that many users are still unaware of a key feature in the app: the Service Directory. This tool enables blind and low-vision users to connect directly with accessible customer service representatives from companies like Microsoft, Google, Hilton, Sony, and more.
With just one click, users can initiate a one-way video and two-way audio call with a support agent trained to assist them, either via Service Connect or our AI-powered Service AI. It’s frictionless, fast, and designed with accessibility at its core.
Sight Village Birmingham reminded us of what makes Be My Eyes so special: the people who use it, and the community we continue to build together. We’re more inspired than ever to keep improving our tools, growing our partnerships, and making the world a little more accessible.
