Sword of Omens: How Nathan and His Family Use Be My Eyes in Extraordinary and Everyday Ways

September 25, 2025

When Nathan first downloaded  Be My Eyes, he thought it wasn’t really for him. “I figured I could manage on my own,” he admits. But years later, a podcast reminder nudged him to try again, and what he discovered changed everything.

Today, Nathan uses Be My Eyes not just with volunteers, but also with his closest circle of support through Be My Eyes Groups. For Nathan, this means a private group with his brother, fittingly named “Sword of Omens” after the Thundercats’ magical weapon that grants “sight beyond sight.”

That “sight beyond sight” came in handy during one of Nathan’s most memorable adventures: tackling a 10-meter-high ropes course with his nine-year-old daughter, Natalia. Wearing his Meta AI glasses, Nathan connected with his brother on Be My Eyes, who guided him across swinging bridges and wobbly platforms, offering real-time descriptions and encouragement. “He even told me to dash across a balance beam,” Nathan laughs. “The instructors were surprised, but I did it!”

Nathan is the first to point out that this was a very unique case. He’s fully aware of the risks, and says he would never have attempted it without trained professionals by his side and his brother on the other end of the call. At Be My Eyes, we love celebrating these creative and inspiring use cases, but we also encourage our community to avoid using the app in unusual or potentially risky situations. Your safety always comes first.

Nathan emphasizes that Be My Eyes isn’t just about extraordinary challenges. It’s just as powerful for everyday frustrations, like finding the lid to a barbecue, reading letters and documents or even setting up a Mario Kart game with his daughter.

The real magic, Nathan says, is the trust that comes from using Be My Eyes with family. With his brother on the other end of a call, he doesn’t have to explain context or worry about awkwardness. Danielle Montour, Be My Eyes’ Community Manager, calls this “access intimacy”: when trusted people naturally provide the accessibility you need in daily life.

“Be My Eyes lets me do ordinary things in extraordinary ways,” Nathan reflects. “Sometimes it’s like having the same confidence boost as my guide dog, Joey. It just makes life easier.”

For Nathan, what started as reluctance has turned into something empowering, even addictive in the best way. And he has one piece of advice for anyone who hasn’t tried it yet: “When you’re feeling frustrated, think of Be My Eyes. It’s a simple way to let someone else see for you, and it can change everything.”
